How a failed transaction got me scammed … almost.

I almost fell into a trap and got scammed last week. I want to write this down mostly as a reminder for myself in the future.

The story started when I initiated a transaction from a centralized crypto exchange to my cold wallet. I have done a few successful transactions prior so I did not pay particular attention. I just click through the approval screen and went about my business. I expected the transaction would go through in a few minutes, as usual.

A few minutes later, as expected, the transaction was listed as success. So I went over to my cold wallet and check, but the fund has not appear yet. Hmm… That’s odd, I thought. I waited another 5 minutes and checked again, still nothing.

I then went back to the exchange and checked on the transaction ID. When a blockchain is congested, the transaction could be stuck for a while. I have had experience when transactions on other chains (such as Ethereum) took hours to complete.

What surprised me was that the transaction was not found on atomscan.com and mintscan.io
